Trick-or-Treating

I posted about the boys costumes but forgot to share their trick-or-treating adventures. This year was really cold for Halloween and the boys were both sick. The each had a nasty cough and Carter, as we found out after taking him to the Doctor earlier in the day, had an ear infection. They were very excited about going out with their friends but once outside, only lasted about half an hour. It probably didn't help that it started raining too! Despite, we did have a good time and got more candy than we knew what to do with.

The little girl in the pink coat, Kate, is one of Carters friends.
They have a love/hate relationship.
They are always so excited to see and play with each other
but always seem to get in little fights over who gets to play with what.

Potty Training and Sleeping Adventures

Carter is one crazy kid! It is amazing to me how different he and Braden are. Braden has always been like a grown up to me; I can reason with him most of the time, he follows directions quickly and easily, and for the most part I only ever have to tell him to do or not do something once and he always does it or remembers to do in in the future. Carter on the other hand is completely the opposite. I have to tell him to do things over and over again, he's not as willing to help out, is much more stubborn and more resistant to discipline, and gets into more mischief that should be allowed.

Potty training has been easier and yet more difficult with Carter vs. Braden. I remember trying to potty train Braden and even though I knew he could go on the potty, he would resist. I remember backing off and then a couple months later Brady wanted to go potty on the toilet and he did. He had maybe one or two accidents but did it. Carter loves to use the potty; he wants to be just like Braden and wear big boys and his excitement about it is through the roof. The problem is that he doesn't go unless I tell him too. I thought for a while that he couldn't "feel" it but now I'm wondering if it's just that he forgets about it. Anyway, I am not pushing him and letting him call the shots. He wears a diaper most of the time but once in a while will wear a pull up or undies when he asks for them. I'm hoping one of these days when he wants to wear undies that he'll go the whole day without an accident. Although I have a feeling that it's gonna be a while before that happens.

Despite being a stinker when it comes to following the rules or potty training Carter is seriously the funniest kid on the planet. He is always saying and doing things that make me laugh. On of my favorite things to do is watch Carter sleep. He never sleeps under his covers and on occasion has fallen out of his bed during the night. It doesn't seem to bother him as he gets back in bed without need of Mom or Dad. He also sleeps in strange positions: upside down, folded in half and even half in/half out of bed.

Homemade Halloween

This year I decided to make Halloween costumes for the boys. They wanted to be Star Wars Jedi's. While my mom was out here she helped me find just the right fabric and then, through some miracle, found a way to turn the fabric into something without using a pattern. Thank goodness for the internet because I found some ideas on where to begin. I think they turned out really cute and the boys were super excited and helpful during the whole process.

 Obi Wan Kenobi

 Luke Skywalker

*Carter fist said he wanted to be Anakin but Braden told him he didn't want to be Anakin because Anakin make bad choices and that he should be Luke because Luke made good choices and Carter wants to make good choices too. What a great teaching moment by Brady.

Snow

I guess since we are moving to where it never snows we needed the opportunity to enjoy the snow before we move. I wasn't ready for the snow to fall so soon though; I mean, it's not even Halloween yet! Braden was super excited to see snow falling outside and exclaimed that today was going to be the best day ever! He even shared that his favorite thing to do is play in the snow. I'm sure trips up north during the winter will definitely be something that we all look forward to although I can't say that I'll miss it too terribly. But I do have to say, it sure was a beautiful thing to see the snow falling today; especially with the crisp fall colors as their background.

We made a snowman which the neighbor kids destroyed
almost immediately after coming in to get warm.
