100 things about me (Katie)

I saw this on my friends blog and am amazed that she could talk about herself, something I'm not very good at...maybe I don't want all the attention. But I am going to try it out anyway:

1. I really enjoy learning. Not necessarily by being taught by someone else. In fact I like trying to figure out things on my own. That doesn't mean I can't be taught.

2. I love a clean house. My house is a mess most of the time which probably explains why I am a mess most of the time. I function at my best when things are in order. (I believe this is why we are taught the Cleanliness is next to Godliness.)

3. My favorite time of the year is the fall. The whole world smells different to me and the colors are beautiful. I just wish winter didn't have to follow it. I'd rather skip to Spring!

4. By best friend is my husband. He makes fun of me because when I have time to do something on my own, I'd rather he come do it with me. I don't accomplish a lot that way but to me it's more fun. (I love you baby!)

5. Welcoming a baby into the world is the most beautiful thing ever. I cry anytime I hear about a baby being born or watch "A Baby Story" on TLC.

6. I love socks! I can't sleep without them and I wear them everywhere. It takes everything in me to NOT wear them with sandals!

7. I am obsessed with scrapbook supplies. I do like to scrapbook and make cards and such, but I think the reason I have so much stuff is because I just like to be around it. It makes me feel good. Sometimes I pull out all my scrapbook supplies and reorganize it and then put it all away just because.

8. I've lived in Utah my whole life thus far and am terrified of moving out-of-state. A part of me is excited about the adventure, but I am a homebody and love to be close to family.

9. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love the gospel and feel that I would be lost without it.

10. I've never had a big spiritual confirmation, but all the little good feelings and blessings that I see in my life I know come from choosing the right as a blessing from a loving Father in heaven.

11. My parents were divorced when I was 16 and although at the time I was devastated I now am grateful for it. I feel that I am a better person for surviving it.

12. I have 11 brothers and sisters: Gareth 28, Ashley 27, Nathan 27, Severin 24, Peter 23, Aubryanna 21, Megan 20, Parker 18, Zane 16, Dane 16, and Abi 8. Yes, we are a mixed family of steps and a half, but I don't like those terms. We are all brothers and sister no matter what!

13. I met my husband through girls camp. Actually I didn't meet him there but that is where the ball started rolling. Heidi and Krista (my mom in-law) had a "I have a son, I have a daughter" talk at girls camp and it all snowballed from there.

14. My full name is Katie Brooke, and I love it.

15. I have small feet and like it, however I don't really like my feet, they're not very pretty.

16. I am tall and wish I was shorter, not much shorter. My sister Megan thinks I'm crazy!

17. I have really long legs and a very short torso. When I was younger my sister called me "Katie-long-legs." I am still scarred by it even though it's true.

18. I was a mean older sister. I don't really know why but I wasn't nice to my siblings all the time. Especially to Ashley. She used words to hurt me, I used my fists. We both have some nice battle scars and I'm surprised that we both aren't bald. I once even threw a hot curling iron at her. I hope that she has forgiven me of all my nastiness and that they all recognize that I'm trying to make up for my mean streak. I would do anything for my siblings. Family is everything to me.

19. Once when I was little I stole a florescent green sunglasses lanyard. It was a totally lame thing to steal and I'm not sure my I did it.

20. Growing up my best friend besides Ashley was Kim Calton (Flamm). We had sleepovers every weekend, and to be given permission to have a sleepover we had to have all our Saturday chores done on Friday. We took turns helping each other (even bleaching the showers in out underwear together). Our sleepovers usually consisted of falling asleep to "Anne of Green Gables" and pretending to give motivational speeches to a bed of stuffed animals.

21. When I clean the bathroom I sometime pretend that I'm on an infomercial demonstrating the different cleaning products. I did this when I was little and I think it stuck.

22. I have had two different surgeries on my right foot. I stepped on a broken light bulb when I was 14 and had to have two pieces removed from my foot that didn't get pulled out when I was
15. Later, at 21, I had to have work done to fix the scaring from the first surgery. I almost had to be on crutches for my wedding 6 1/2 weeks later.

23. I have the most beautiful son, Frederick Braden! He is the light of my life, even on those cloudy days!

24. I didn't mind being pregnant with Braden, now I'm rethinking the whole thing.

25. When I was little Ashley and I once poured a 25 lb. bag of sugar on the new carpet in the basement just so our "little people" could have snow.

26. I was convinced a monster lived in our basement when I was a kid. He was a magic monster because once in a while we would discover small additions to our toys. It's still a mystery to me because my mom said she didn't do it.

27. I hope one day to be a "gramma goodie" just like my gramma goodie. She used to leave treats in the magic cupboard at her house. The magic mouse left them there. My favorite treat that I remember was a bar of "twinkie" soap.

28. In high school I was in the pep band. Some friends of mine knew that I had open classes and talked me into being a part of the percussion ensemble because I could read music and help with the vibraphone and marimba. I played the triangle and when allowed the bass drum. I don't have any rhythm and to this day don't think I was a very good help.

29. I also sang in the choir and played in the bell choir. I'm not sure why I joined bell choir. My choir director asked me to do it, and if you knew Mr. Scott you'd be surprised that I agreed too, he was a Nazi.

30. I had my tonsils out when I was 3. I remember the bubble gum sleepy gas and the nurse who held me as I fell asleep.

31. My very first memory was when I was 1 1/2 and I was getting in the cupboard to get some Zesta crackers. I knew I wasn't supposed to be in there but I really wanted that red box of treats!

32. I once took balloons and stuffed my shirt like I had boobs. My uncle Keyth came to visit us and my mom told him to go see my creative side. I ran and hid under the bed and quickly popped them. I was so embarrassed.

33. I like to play golf. I 'm terrible at putting, but thanks to my hubby and can now hit the ball straight!

34. I wish I had as much energy as my momma. Many who know my mom know how crazy she is and she does things that even now I can become embarrassed of. But despite all her crazy antics I would love to have her energy and vitality.

35. I have a great fear of drowning, and yet I love to swim and do anything that involves the lake, river, or water in general.

36. I hate hair in the bathroom! Nuff said.

37. My favorite color is blue. I'm not sure why because I don't decorate with it or wear it for that matter, except for jeans of course.

38. I married my hubby February 16th 2002 in the Bountiful Temple. I still wish I would have waited to have a spring wedding.

39. I didn't love my wedding dress. Don't get me wrong, it was beautiful and I looked fantastic, I just would have gone with something different.

40. I love to plan weddings, especially now that I get what I'm doing. I planned both my sisters weddings, trying really hard to make it theirs and not mine. (I think I would have done my differently looking back, but I didn't know any better back then.) I would love to help anyone else do it but next time I think I'd rather be paid and I'd rather not do it if I'm in the wedding party. Don't worry Abi, I'll plan yours!

41. I love my wedding ring! My husband designed it and I pretty much had no say in what it would look like.

42. I don't really like to read, but I'm learning to like it!

43. I love Harry Potter, the books, not so much the movies; they're just okay.

44. I love photography. I'm not good by any means but I am learning the fine art of it. I hope one day to be talented in that area.

45. I don't love my house. I do love my neighborhood, neighbors, ward, everything else, just not my house. Okay, so I do like my house. I think it has to do with permanence. I know that I won't live here in this house very long and that we'll eventually move from it. Just like with all the houses before and I'm sure a few to come. I will be very happy when I don't have say I'll be moving  in a couple years for this reason or that.

46. I was a daddy's girl growing up.

47. My favorite number is 7 or 3. No reason why. I just like em.

48. My eyes are green, sometimes blue, with a circle of pee right in the middle.

49. I like my teeth.

50. My biggest pet peeve is milk left out on the counter. Milk lives in the fridge and should never touch the counter. If it's been left out I won't drink it and have to open a new carton. (This drives my hubby crazy.) Also, it takes till the next day after buying milk for me to have a drink.

51. I eat M&M's and Skittles and other colored candies one color at a time and only in equal colors. (If there are 6 blue, 3 red and 5 orange candies, I'll only eat 3 of each and give the rest away or eat the 3 of each and then the 2 of each remaining and give the extra 1 blue away.)

52. Sometime I have to chew equal amounts on each side of my mouth.

53. I count my steps a lot when I walk and have to walk equal steps per each side. I'm getting better at not doing this.

54. Light switches should always face the same direction when all the lights are on or off.

55. When I'm bugged by something I feel like I want to itch something.

56. My favorite toy as a child was my "darbie doll."

57. I love food and can't see why anyone could ever be anorexic.

58. One of my favorite foods is Sloppy Joe's. I also really like Mexican.

59. I didn't say "yes" when my hubby asked me to marry him. I said "yeah?!"

60. I told my family we were having another baby in Del Taco.

61. I never had an American Girl Doll and to this day still wish I did. My daughters, if I have daughters will have one.

62. Growing up I hated "knee-to-knee" talks. I still hate them, but I cherish the reasons behind them.

63. I always cry when I bear my testimony in church. I feel like an idiot up there.

64. I love the "K-K-K-Katie" song.

65. On vacations when I was younger my mom would put these tapes in that told stories of pioneers that we'd listen to on our long drives. I loved them and miss them.

66. I've kissed my cousins. When we were young there were 8 of us that were real close. 6 girls and 2 boys. We all took turns playing the mom and kissing when we played house.

67. My favorite family tradition is running the river every summer. I've only missed one year since I was born and that was because my mom had this dream about my brother drowning and we didn't go that year.

68. The tree in my Gramma Dee's backyard was the best to climb. We'd have 20 of us up there at a time with no injuries that I can remember.

69. I was blessed as a baby the first Fast Sunday they began the Block Schedule.

70. I've never broken a bone but I did bite through my lip after slipping in the bathtub when I was little and had to have stitches. I still have faint scars from it.

71. I have a scar on the inside of my right arm that helps me to remember left from right.

72. Once while snowmobiling I fell into a sink hole.

73. I am afraid of heights.

74. My right leg is shorter than my left leg and I have to wear a lift in my shoe.

75. I play the piano but don't like to play for other people.

76. I am a perfectionist even if it doesn't really show.

77. I hate it when I have something I want to tell people and nobody to call.

78. I tell my hubby everything. I try real hard to keep secrets but sometime I just have to tell him.

79. I love it when my Braden tells me "I yuv you!" The first time he said it my heart just melted!

80. I hate to shop, unless it's going to yard sales with my momma.

81. When we were little my sister and I took paper clips and pretended we had braces. I even used a handle from a bucket and made pretend head-gear. I thought we were pretty cool until I actually had to wear head-gear.

82. My sister and I used to take long white petticoats and wear them around our heads pretending we had long hair.

83. In fourth grade a boy in my class kissed me on Valentines Day. I was mortified and ran to the sink to wash off all the germs! (I was probably more embarrassed than grossed out because my mom was there that day.)

84. During my sophomore year at high school our basket ball team went to state. It was the final game and I was grounded and couldn't go. I made a deal with my mom that if Murray won the championship I could go to the post game party. They won and I got out of being grounded. I talked my mom out of a lot of punishments from then on.

85. I didn't have a curfew in high school. All my friends did, so I didn't get into trouble.

86. I've never smoked, had alcohol or done anything illegal.

87. My first car was an '89 Honda Civic hatchback, white. I loved it and pretty much almost killed it. (Thanks dad for the sacrifice you made for me to have it.)

88. I almost flunked my last term of chemistry in high school. It was first period and I was late every day. I forged my mom's name on late notes so that I wouldn't get a "U" in citizenship. (I did have her permission to do it.) I barely passed with a D+. Funny because I had A's all the other terms.

89. I didn't read the book for a 5th grade group project and almost messed up the end result.

90. I could wear a white top and jeans every day of the week. Wait, I already do!

91. I've always wanted long hair but can't stand to have my hair long. My hair is too thin. Just at the shoulders is the longest I can handle.

92. It took 2+ year and infertility help to get pregnant with Braden and because of the experience I am convinced that our Heavenly Father knows better for us than we do. I have a lot more faith in His plan for me and try really hard to accept and follow it.

93. The Henrie's have big babies. Unfortunately that doesn't work well with my narrow hips. I am grateful for c-sections!

94. I love being a mother more than I thought I would. It really is the hardest and best thing you'll ever do.

95. I love BBQ's in the mountains. I should plan them more often.

96. Sometimes I pee a little when I laugh too hard. (Thanks mom for the weak bladder.)

97. I love my in-laws. I am one lucky gal.

98. I love to travel and see new things, but my favorite part of a vacation is coming home. That is until I see the huge pile of laundry waiting for me.

99. I love the smell of clean laundry. I'm always trying new scents to keep the smell fresh to my senses.

100. Sometimes I think it's funny when my hubby gets mad. I never purposefully make him mad but I laugh at how he reacts. This drives him crazy. Also, I can't stay mad at him or anyone for that matter for very long. When I am mad I yell and scream and just want to be left alone. However a few minutes later I just want to snuggle with my honey and forget the whole thing.

I hope you all enjoyed this list, even though you've now all discovered that I'm totally deformed on my right side, a little OCD and have some serious quirks. I'd encourage anyone and everyone to make their own list of facts because I've learned a lot about me and I'm sure you all have too.

my dad and his harley

So my dad thinks he's a "wild hog" or something. Over the last few months he has purchased two new motorcycles and has joined some buddies and is now in a motorcycle gang! It's really somewhat hilarious to see my dad get ready for his ride...Harley jacket, boots, leather chaps, gloves the whole works. I think he's trying too hard to be young again (J/K dad)! He is currently out with his gang on a 3 week adventure to Alaska. If you'd like to take a peek at their trip and see some funny pictures just go to their trip blog (Life on the Road).

we're having a baby!

Yes, it's true. I found out on Memorial day. I had gone into the doctor the week before to have some tests done to see why  I again was having trouble getting pregnant. The doctor called me back with my results and said, "your levels are really high, are you pregnant?" I didn't know what to say, but it all just hit me that I did have all the symptoms. I never did take a test but with all the nauseousness I've been feeling, I must be. Anyway, we're due February 1st and we are so excited!

a bad day and yet blessings are everywhere

Okay, so this part of the day, although adding to the caos, was actually pretty funny. I was filling the tub to get ready for Braden's bath when he decided to dive in head first with all his clothes still on. The worst part wasn't that he was in his clothes but that he had filled his shorts just prior to the dive in. I had to pull him out to get him cleaned up to put him back in. After getting him cleaned up and back in he decided to pee in the bath! I had to drain the tub, fill it back up only to have him pee again. I drained the tub and this time bathed him and rinsed him without filling the tub. Luckily, this episode didn't happen in 3's. But this is just a glimpse of our day, let's rewind to the start of our day. This morning started out smooth. Braden woke just as Kam came home from his night shift and Kam helped Braden with breakfast while I showered. After getting ready Braden and I took off to help my cousin, Richelle, with some projects around her house and show her how to make hair bows for our upcoming enrichment that she is helping me with. It took longer than expected to leave the house because I lost my keys and finally gave up and grabbed the spare. We got everything done at Richelle's and then I was off to meet some girls from the ward for an outing at the zoo. The zoo was great, except for the fact that I locked my keys in the car! I tried not to panic and decided to worry about it when it was time to leave hoping I could attempt to enjoy the day despite the rotten luck. We had a great time. Braden loved the animals and probably the train ride the best. Unfortunately I forgot the camera and didn't get any pictures of our adventures (another bad luck moment). Just before leaving the zoo, I searched my bag getting ready to figure out a way to get home when I found the lost keys from this morning! What a blessing, I'm pretty sure Heavenly Father knew I would lock my keys in my car and prompted me to grab the spare keys rather than finding the main keys in the first place. We were pretty tired by this point and we both took a much needed nap when we got home, Braden fell asleep before we even left the parking lot. After our nap we got dinner ready and said goodbye to dad for another long night at work. Braden and I hung out and read books until bath time. After our bath experience I remembered that I needed to pick some stuff up at the store for our enrichment tomorrow so I loaded Braden in the car and made it to the end of the block and ran out of gas! I couldn't believe it! I had to walk back home to get the gas can which was thankfully full and walked back to the car to fill it with the little bit of gas left. Now, after finishing my errand, getting gas and putting Braden to bed, he was so ready, I can relax and pray that tomorrow will be a better day!

daddy wannabe

Braden is such a daddy's boy. He wants dad most of the time and wants to do what daddy is doing all the time. If dad is eating a bowl of cereal then Braden has to eat a bowl of cereal (even if he has just finished his own bowl for breakfast), if dad is mowing the lawn, Braden has to be mowing the lawn and so on and so on. On this day, Braden wanted to shave just like dad so dad put some shaving cream on Braden's face and helped him shave. Braden thought it was pretty cool! I love how much Braden loves his daddy. In fact when Braden is not feeling well he will usually cry for "da-dee" and not "mommy," and when he wakes each morning it's usually the same thing. Sometimes it makes me sad and I think "why can't he love me more, why does he have to choose dad over me?" but I guess I should call it a blessing even if I sometimes wish he'd just snuggle with me or choose me once in a while.
